I never really liked pleats before. It seemed completely unflattering and too frou frou for my taste. However, my idea of pleats has drastically changed with designers like Derek Lam and Elie Tahari putting a few modern tweaks to this classic style. I particularly like the ones that come in ethereal, flowy fabrics such as chiffon and silk.
Even celebs are going gaga over this trend! This feminine detail has been spotted on both the red carpet and on the streets of Hollywood (err London, in Fearne’s case).
What I love about this trend is its versatility. You can dress it up or dress it down, wear it long or short, spunked up or feminine. And contrary to previous beliefs, it’s actually quite flattering!
Here’s one of my favorite pleated skirts and three ways to wear it.
1. Casual Chic
Try this trend on for yourself! Just make sure to choose the pretty little pleats, rather than the big boxy ones our grandmothers used to wear.
