A week before my birthday, the hubby told me to go to a designer to have a dress made. He said it would be his birthday gift and that he’d take me out to dinner. I probably should have asked why I needed a new dress and where we were going, but instead I just said, “Awesome! Okay!”. The truth is, I was dying to get a new dress made and I already knew what I wanted.
These were some of my pegs. I wanted something with a high slit, yet not too risqué. I had no idea where he was taking me, so keeping it wearable was a must.
Next, I had to decide on the color. At first I wanted it in either black or white, to keep it more low-key, but later on remembered Emma Stone’s red and fuchsia combo that I absolutely adored. They say it’s good luck to wear red on your birthday, right?
A few days later I met up with designer Kenneth Chua. He did Anne Curtis’s sequined, high-slit dress for the Preview Ball this year, so I figured he’d be the best person to go to.
Tada! I was extremely happy with the finished product–the bright color blocking, the matte gold belt that tied the two colors together, the modest thigh-high slit. It was the perfect birthday dress!
And if you’re wondering where I ended up wearing my new frock, well, the dress wasn’t the only birthday gift the hubby had for me. He threw me a surprise party, too!
This was definitely one of my best birthdays ever. All I wanted was to be surrounded by friends and loved ones, and that’s exactly what I got. Okay, it doesn’t hurt to have the pretty dress, too!
